
2022 Midterms: How Drug Reform Laws Performed
Adult-use marijuana will soon be legal for nearly half of the states in the U.S.
Voters in states of Maryland and Missouri legalized adult-use cannabis on November 8, bringing the total number of fully legal states to 21.
It wasn’t all good news for cannabis though. North Dakota’s legalization measure was defeated 55% to 45%. South Dakota also rejected legalization after approving it two years ago. The last measure was successfully challenged by Gov. Kristi Noem in the courts. Legalization now appears dead in South Dakota for some time.
One of the biggest drug reform wins of the night came on the psychedelics front. Colorado voters passed a measure legalizing possession of small amounts of psychedelics. Prop. 122’s victory margin was a razor thin 3%.
