Connecticut Overdoses Tied to Weed Laced With Fentanyl
Health officials in Connecticut say they have linked 39 overdoses between July and October to illicit marijuana laced with fentanyl. The patients were revived with naloxone administered by first responders.
Marijuana samples were collected from the patients and sent to a state laboratory, which confirmed the presence of fentanyl.
“This is the first lab confirmed case of marijuana with fentanyl in Connecticut and possibly the first confirmed case in the United States,” Department of Public Health Commissioner Dr. Manisha Juthani said in a statement.
Connecticut legalized recreational cannabis use this year, but regulated retail sales will not begin until at least this summer.
