Shasta Supervisors Discuss Illegal Pot Farms

Shasta County supervisors held a meeting last week to discuss a surge of illegal marijuana grows in the county. Representatives from Congressman Doug LaMafa’s office were in attendance. The Congressman has been in the news after releasing video of himself bulldozing marijuana plants in neighboring Siskiyou County.

“It's going to be a real concentrated effort to get everybody on board and everybody working as a team to combat this,” said District 3 Supervisor Mary Rickert.

“It's not just a simple problem, it's a complex problem that has many facets to it.”

Commercial cannabis cultivation is prohibited in unincorporated areas of the county. Illegal operations persist and some of them bring public safety risks and environmental degradation.
