Survey: Most Monterey Voters Support Local Cannabis Businesses

The majority of registered voters in Monterey support local cannabis operations, according to a survey released by the city. The results are impressive, especially given the age of the respondents, which tended to skew 61 or older (54%).

The survey was conducted via postcards and on the city’s Have Your Say website. 1,158 people responded by postcard, with nearly 57% in support. Of the 215 respondents to the online survey, 71% supported commercial cannabis.

The city is currently discussing the future of cannabis operations in Monterey. Cannabis businesses could generate as much as $1.5 million for the city’s general fund. A “Roadmap for Cannabis: An Engaging, Adaptable and Transparent Process” was presented by City Manager Hans Uslar to the City Council late last year. Further data was presented on Feb 24.
