Steve DeAngelo, “Father of Legal Cannabis,” Leaves Harborside

The “father of legal cannabis,” Steve DeAngelo, is moving on from the Oakland cannabis company he co-founded 15 years ago.

Harborside Inc. in Oakland announced Monday that the company is parting ways with DeAngelo and eliminating the role of Chairman Emeritus.

DeAngelo, who is recognized as one of the leading cannabis rights activists in the nation, says he will continue to champion equity and access in the legal cannabis industry.

“Harborside was founded on the principle of providing safe and affordable access to cannabis for those who require it,” he said. “I’m proud of the immense work that has been completed to get us to where we are today and wish the very best for the Company as it continues to grow. Moving forward, I will continue to focus on environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG) issues and opportunities in the legal cannabis industry”.
