House of Representatives Will Vote on MORE Act This Week

It could be today, it could be Friday. But sometime this week, the U.S. House of Representatives will hold a vote on the Marijuana Opportunity Reinvestment and Expungement (MORE) Act. That’s according to House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer.

The bill was sponsored by Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris. It would remove marijuana from the Controlled Substances Act, decriminalize it at the federal level, and allow for expungement of many federal marijuana-related crimes. A vote was supposed to take place in September, but was suspended as lawmakers debated a second coronavirus relief package.

This week’s vote will follow a series of remarkable victories for cannabis legalization during the November election. Those victories could boost bipartisan support for the bill.
