Joe Biden Campaign Task Force Stops Short of Recommending Federal Legalization of Marijuana

A criminal justice task force advising presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden will not recommend that he come out in favor of national legalization of recreational marijuana. Instead, the panel advises a position that is nearly identical to the one Biden currently holds:

  • Support decriminalization through executive action
  • Support states’ rights on commercial pot
  • Legalize medical cannabis
  • Support automatic expungement for possession
  • Encourage social equity programs
  • Remove marijuana use from the list of deportable offenses

The task force’s recommendations are interesting, given the public’s movement on this issue. Polls show a majority of Americans support national legalization of adult use cannabis.
