Wall Street Banks Move Away From Employee Cannabis Testing

Seven of the largest banks in New York City have stopped testing their employees for marijuana, Business Insider reports. The news underscores the increasing normalization of cannabis use and the slow but steady rejection of stereotypes about untrustworthy or lazy cannabis consumers.

According to Business Insider, of the seven largest Wall Street banks, some said they are no longer testing new hires. Some said they had eliminated testing completely. But clearly, they all seem to be moving in the same direction.

As cannabis legalization grows across the United States, fewer workplaces are testing for THC overall. According to data from SimplyHired, 55.1% of hiring managers said they do not test employees for cannabis and 38.9% do it less often than they used to.
