New Research Suggests CBD Could Treat Coronavirus

Researchers with Augusta University in Georgia say they have reason to believe that cannabidiol or CBD could offer benefits to some individuals who become sick with coronavirus.

Their new study shows CBD may positively impact acute respiratory distress syndrome or ARDS. This is the inflammatory response, sometimes referred to as “cytokine storm,” that has proved dangerous—even deadly—for some patients.

The research was performed on mice. CBD reduced specific cytokines such as interleukin (IL)-6. In mice that were experiencing a lab-induced cytokine storm, their symptoms “were totally or partially reversed and returned to the level and condition of the normal after treatment with CBD.”
