Crescent City Passes Commercial Pot Ordinance

The Crescent City Council has finally adopted an ordinance governing commercial cannabis sales. The item passed on March 16 after more than two years of discussion.

The ordinance permits brick-and-mortar retail but prohibits mobile vending and drive-throughs. Indoor cultivation is limited to 2,000 square feet of space. Outdoor cultivation as well as on-site use is prohibited. Businesses must keep 600 feet away from  schools and cannot advertise within 1,000 feet of a park, library or playground.

There were some discussions about the challenges COVID-19 may pose for the new legal market. In light of the crisis, officials are not expecting a revenue windfall — at least not initially.
