marijuana lounges approved in Berkeley

Cannabis users will soon be able to vape or light up in designated dispensaries. The Berkeley City Council voted to allow on-site marijuana consumption at shops with ventilation systems.

The decision was supported by council staff.

“Providing a place to consume cannabis legally is important for patients who have no other options,” they said in a report.

The Berkeley Community Health Commission opposed it, citing the risk of secondhand smoke.

Although cannabis use is legal, it is prohibited in public spaces and many apartment complexes in Berkeley, leaving consumers with few options for use.

Berkeley has also voted to allow up to seven cannabis delivery services within city limits.
