Pot Shop Bar Codes Will Help Consumers Verify a Business

It just got a lot easier for cannabis consumers to find out if a pot shop is legit.

Last month, the Bureau of Cannabis Control announced a program that encourages retailers to post QR codes in their windows. QR code are those fuzzy, black and white checkered boxes that can be scanned for information.

In this case, consumers can use their cellphone cameras to swipe the bar codes and yield information about the dispensary from the BCC’s licensing system.

Consumers can currently verify a pot shop’s license on the BCC’s website, but the new bar codes make the task easier. The new system was heralded by the United Cannabis Business Assn., which represents the many licensed retailers facing unfair competition from a sizable black market.
