California Will Make QR Codes Mandatory for Dispensaries
Cannabis consumers will soon be able to verify that their weed is from a licensed dispensary. The state announced Thursday that all licensed marijuana businesses will have to display QR codes that contain licensing information. That information can then be transmitted to the customer via cell phone.
The BCC first experimented with the idea last month through a volunteer pilot program. Convinced of its necessity, the department is now ready to make the codes mandatory. And it will benefit delivery consumers too.
“Consumers will be able to ask a delivery driver to scan their QR code," BCC Spokesman Alex Traverso told United Press International.
The government has been focused on undercutting the black market for some time, but the recent vaping crisis was the final impetus for this plan.
