How Cannabis Curious is Your City?

Entrepreneurs looking to capitalize on the cannabis industry have a new tool they can use when considering where to set up shop.

Medical Marijuana Inc. has released a report ranking 180 U.S. metropolitan areas according to their “interest” in cannabis. The researchers based their analysis on Search Interest scores provided by Google Trends, a platform that aggregates popular Google queries.

Of the top 10 cities most interested in marijuana, 3 were in California. That includes #1 on the list, Eureka.

Three cities in Oklahoma made the top 10. Recreational cannabis use and sales are illegal in Oklahoma, though the state does have a medical cannabis program.

The Rio Grande Valley region of southern Texas is the least interested in cannabis, according to Medical Marijuana Inc.

Here are the top 10 metros for marijuana interest, according to the report:

1. Eureka, California
2. Medford and Klamath Falls, Oregon
3. Sherman, Texas and Ada, Oklahoma
4. Traverse City and Cadillac, Michigan
5. Tulsa, Oklahoma
6. Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
7. Bangor, Maine
8. Grand Junction and Montrose, Colorado
9. Chico and Redding, California
10. Eugene, Oregon
