Marijuana Arrests Up Across the U.S.

With 11 states having now legalized recreational marijuana, arrests are surely on the decline, right? Wrong.

There were 663,367 marijuana-related arrests in the country last year, according to FBI statistics. That was an increase from the previous two years, which saw 659,700 (2017) and 653,249 (2016) arrests respectively.

These aren’t mostly high-level crimes either. In 2018, 608,775 (92 percent) of marijuana-related arrests were for possession.
