America’s First Cannabis Cafe Opens in West Hollywood

The first cannabis cafe in the United States opened its doors in West Hollywood Tuesday

It’s called Lowell Farms and its chef, Andrea Drummer, was trained at Le Cordon Bleu in Los Angeles. She began making CBD and THC-infused dishes six years ago after opening her cooperative, Elevate VIP.

Because of California law, the restaurant does not offer any cannabis-infused dishes.

Lowell Farms offers “tableside flower service,” in which a “flower host” will explain the various strains available that evening. Guests can smoke marijuana on site. A special air filtration system was put in place to keep the air breathable.

Lowell may be the first, but it won't be the last. Seven other cannabis cafes are expected to open in West Hollywood.

Costa Mesa’s cannabis program is like a microcosm of the state’s experiment with legal weed. Hoping for a windfall in tax revenue, the city opened its doors to commercial marijuana in 2016.
