Vape Sales Take a Hit

The mysterious vaping illness that has sickened more than 800 people and caused 13 deaths is now having an impact on sales. Leafly reports that revenue from legal vape products has declined by 15% nationwide. Some states are witnessing a decline of more than 60%.

Despite a large focus on flavored tobacco products by states, municipalities, and President Trump, the CDC has said just 16% of cases involved tobacco-only products. The rest contained cannabis.

Other than an Oregon case, all patients were using unregulated cannabis products. But that doesn’t appear to be mitigating the impact on legal vaping sales.

The CDC has urged the public to cease all vaping of both nicotine and cannabis products, whether legal or illegal, until they can single out a definitive cause.
