Recreational Pot Could Soon Make Its Debut in Chico

Three years after voters opted to legalize recreational marijuana, the Northern California city of Chico may be ready to embrace it.

A committee formed to study commercial cannabis legalization more than two months ago has recommended the city allow 3 to 5 dispensaries to set up shop. A draft ordinance stipulates they be kept 600 to 1,000 feet from schools depending on the type of school.

There are concerns, including the lack of banking services available to the industry.
