Marijuana Business Daily Sits Down With Cannabis Czar Nicole Elliott
As Gov. Gavin Newsom’s senior cannabis adviser, Nicole Elliott has a lot on her plate. Marijuana Business Daily recently had a chance to sit down with her and discuss some of the biggest issues facing California's legal cannabis industry and what the governor considers his top priorities going forward.
In terms of priorities, “the way he really looks at it is three pillars, and they’re very broad,” she said. They are: access to licensing, thoughtful enforcement, and social equity.
Elliott said the governor recognizes there are too many barriers to legal entry in the marketplace right now. “That said, we all know that once bureaucracy is built, it’s really challenging to undo.”
She reiterated Newsom’s prediction that it would take 5 to 7 years to work out all the kinks affecting the industry.
“I think we’re in month 20 now, so less than two years in.”
