Fairfax Approves New Marijuana Rules

The Fairfax Town Council has approved a cannabis ordinance after months of debate. It will allow two recreational cannabis dispensaries, not to be located within 600 feet of schools or within 300 feet of preschools or daycare centers.

Allowable cannabis businesses are limited to brick-and-mortar dispensaries and delivery services only. Cultivation, manufacturing, distribution centers, and testing laboratories are prohibited under the law.

“Is it exactly what I would have wanted? No. But I think it’s good we’re moving forward,” said Mayor Barbara Coler (Marin Independent Journal).

The vote was 3-1 with Coler dissenting and Vice Mayor Renee Goddard absent from the vote. Coler thought the buffer zones were too restrictive for a town as small as Fairfax.
