Americans Spent $400 Million on Weed This Fourth of July

Independence Day 2019 saw a whole lot of red, white, blue ... and green.

Cannabis tech company Akerna estimates that marijuana users spent a record $400 million on legal cannabis on the Fourth of July. That’s more than they spent on chicken. For a day synonymous with outdoor barbecues, that's pretty impressive.

Leafly reports that Americans “could spend more on Independence Day cannabis than they do on wine” by 2020 if the company’s estimates are accurate. That would put July 4th just behind 4/20 in terms of gross cannabis sales.
