Sonora to Sue Over Marijuana Delivery Rules
The City of Sonora in Tuolumne County will sue the California Bureau of Cannabis Control (BCC) over a new policy that allows for marijuana deliveries statewide.
The City Council recently voted 5-0 to move forward with a lawsuit. It is expected to be one of many legal challenges brought by municipalities over the new rules.
The BCC finalized the new regulations in January despite objections from local governments, organizations like the League of California Cities, and law enforcement groups. Opponents of the policy have argued that it usurps the local discretion over commercial cannabis guaranteed under Prop. 64.
“It won’t just be us,” Mayor Jim Garaventa told the Sonora newspaper about his city’s lawsuit.
