Marijuana’s Highest Paying Jobs

It’s no secret that there’s big money to be made in the nation’s blossoming marijuana industry. But not all jobs are created equal. If you want to make the big bucks, you have to know where to look. And you can start by looking East.

“East of the Mississippi is definitely paying a lot higher than West of the Mississippi,” said James Yagielo, co-founder of medical marijuana training company HempStaff.

Because the legal markets for recreational and medical pot are newer on the East Coast, they’re being forced to broaden their search. In the hopes of attracting experienced workers in the West, they’re willing to pay a lot more.

An Ohio cannabis company said it needs a grow master, an extraction specialist, and a dispensary manager right now. The salaries it’s willing to pay for all three jobs? $100,000-$120,000, $90,000-120,000, and $80,000-$120,000 respectively.

“I’m hearing that companies are finding it hard to keep good talent,” said the company’s CEO.

Master extractors are the most sought after and highest paid in the industry, according to Yagielo. Their salaries can easily reach $180,000 per year. Master cultivators are also in high demand. They can see salaries of up to $150,000 if they’re good.

But experience is always key. If you don’t have a full resume, you can try breaking into the industry and learning the trade. Just know you’ll be earning a much lower salary to start.
