Jurupa Valley Poised to Shut Down Marijuana Church

The City of Jurupa Valley may close down a local church that sells marijuana to its congregants as part of its services, a judge has ruled. Riverside Superior Court Judge Sunshine Sykes issued the lock-out order Wednesday, Aug. 15. City Manager Gary Thompson said the city will execute the order as soon as time permits.

The Vault Church of Open Faith claims the use and distribution of cannabis is an integral part of its beliefs and practices.

“I’ve never heard of a church selling their sacrament,” Thompson countered.

The church says it may appeal the decision. It also says it’s scouting new locations. To date, Jurupa Valley prohibits all forms of commercial pot.
