Long Beach to Weigh Adult Use Pot

The Long Beach City Council will take up the issue of adult use marijuana sales at its meeting Tuesday, June 19. Depending on how the discussions go, the dais could ultimately approve a set of code changes that would legalize recreational pot sales and commercial cultivation within city limits.

City staff estimates that a tax on recreational cannabis businesses could yield an additional $750,000 in revenue for FY 2019.

Long Beach already allows medical marijuana businesses to operate in the city. Currently, the only recreational marijuana market thriving in Long Beach is the black market.

If approved, the proposed ordinance would most likely take effect at the end of July.
