John Boehner Joins the Marijuana Biz
Retirement has left former Republican House Speaker John Boehner with plenty of time to ruminate on marijuana policy. Three years after stepping down from congress, Boehner now says he’s changed his mind about the benefits of legal cannabis. Not only is he championing decriminalization, but he’s joining the board of one of the nation’s largest cannabis companies.
I’m joining the board of #AcreageHoldings because my thinking on cannabis has evolved. I’m convinced de-scheduling the drug is needed so we can do research, help our veterans, and reverse the opioid epidemic ravaging our communities. @AcreageCannabis https://t.co/f5i9KcQD0W— John Boehner (@SpeakerBoehner) April 11, 2018
Boehner recently sat down for an interview with NBC's Savannah Guthrie. He said he’s not going so far as to call for nationwide legalization. Rather, he thinks cannabis policy should be left up to the states. He does want federal rescheduling of the drug, however.
