900 Unlicensed Pot Shops, Weedmaps Receive Warnings From the State

Adult use marijuana may be legal in California, but you still need a state license to operate. At least 900 businesses haven’t gotten the memo.

Cease-and-desist letters were recently sent by Bureau of Cannabis Control head Lori Ajax to the nearly 1,000 dispensaries operating without a license. Letters were also sent to the popular cannabis directory Weedmaps, which continues to feature illicit pot shops on its website and mobile app.

“Your website contains advertisements from persons offering cannabis and cannabis products for sale that are not licensed to conduct commercial cannabis activity; therefore, you are aiding and abetting in violations of state cannabis laws,” Ajax warned.
