California’s Top Marijuana Moments of 2017

In 2016, California voters approved adult-use marijuana. In 2017, all eyes were on the regulatory side of things, with state and local governments scrambling to enact rules and regulations for cannabis.

There were important moments at the national level too: court decisions, watershed public opinion polling, and the swearing in of a new hard-nosed attorney general whom many feared would crack down on states that had legalized medical or recreational marijuana. (So far, so good.)

For the past 365 days and more, we’ve been watching it all for you. Now, a look back at of some of the most important moments for marijuana in 2017:

1. California consolidates it’s recreational and medical cannabis laws

2. California releases its emergency rules on marijuana licensing

3. L.A. approves new pot rules, putting it on track to become the largest legal marijuana market in the country

4. San Francisco approves recreational pot sales just in the nick of time

6. California’s third largest county bans commercial weed

7. Judge blocks federal prosecutors from pursuing medical cannabis cultivators in Humboldt citing United States v. McIntosh and the Rohrabacher-Farr amendment

8. Prosecution of San Diego pot attorney raises significant questions for attorneys and other professionals that assist the marijuana industry

10. Studies show marijuana is more popular than ever before.

And for the first time, recreational weed is approved by a majority of Republicans

11. Scientists launch cannabis into space

Can’t wait to see what the new year brings!
