Pomona Bans Commercial Pot

The City of Pomona has taken a side in the great debate over recreational marijuana.

On Nov. 6, the city council voted to prohibit all commercial marijuana activity within city limits and establish a permitting system for the six plants that can be grown for personal use. They have also banned cannabis smoking wherever tobacco products are prohibited. Medical dispensaries have been banned in the city since 2008.

The vote was unanimous.

Pomona’s ordinance takes effect 30 days from the vote. The permitting fees for cultivation will be discussed in January.
