Legal Pot Sales Could Yield Sticker Shock

You can almost -- almost -- purchase weed legally at your local dispensary without a medical marijuana card. But it’s going to cost you. A lot.

Experts believe a small bag of marijuana will cost around $50 to $60 at the counter come January, thanks to all those taxes and fees. Right now, that same amount can be purchased for about $35 with a medical card.

That begs the question: what happens to the black market after Prop 64 is fully implemented? Will it continue to thrive? Some experts and growers fear the answer is yes, especially once the novelty of legal pot shopping in California wears off.

It’s Economics 101, folks.
