Oceanside Extends Pot Prohibition

Recreational pot dispensaries that were hoping to set up in Oceanside are out of luck. The City Council voted unanimously to extend restrictions Tuesday, prohibiting commercial pot businesses within city limits.

The situation could change. Most of the council members said they would be open to changing their minds in the future. They want to see what the new state regulations look like once they’re finalized in 2018.

In addition to the ban on recreational shops and grows, an ad hoc committee will most likely look at the issue of medical marijuana dispensaries. Right now, Oceanside residents can only legally obtain medical pot via delivery from licensed dispensaries outside city limits.
